Alison McFarland

Advertising Student

Welcome to my portfolio. I am an advertising student at the University of Georgia with an expected graduation date of December 2020. I am passionate about advertising and public relations and have sought to gain as much experience as possible. Currently, I work as a strategist for Pawprint Agency, a student run advertising agency at UGA. I also serve as the communications intern for Arthur Tripp, an independent candidate who is running for Georgia's state senate, and as an intern for UGA Blacksheep where I create comedic posts for their Instagram and Twitter. In the Fall of 2019, I had the opportunity to serve as the marketing and public relations intern at St.Mary's hospital in Athens. Through my classes at UGA and various internships, I have learned valuable skills that have strengthened my passion for advertising such as writing, conducting research, target market discovery, and social media tracking. Explore my work below, and contact me directly to learn more.

Great American Smokeout: Fincher Family Breaks Free

As the marketing and public relations intern for St. Mary's hospital, I had the honor of writing a story on the annual Great American Smokeout. For my piece, I interviewed the Fincher family. The Fincher family are all former smokers and were able to quit smoking due to St.Mary's Freedom from Smoking class.

Beating Breast Cancer

In honor of breast cancer awareness month, I interviewed eight women who battled breast cancer. Each of the women I interviewed were employees of the St.Mary's hospital in Athens. I wanted to write a piece to connect health care workers to their patients who are also battling breast cancer. My article was published in the Fall 2019 issue of Health Outlook magazine.
